The Czech General Insurance Company (VZP CR) is striving to optimize the
locations of ambulatory health care facilities and we prepared for them a special map project that visualizes the necessary information and enables the user to get an integrated overview of the capacities in individual health care areas.
The map project enables the thematic map user to select:
- monitored administrative units (starting with country’s Regions and ending with Townships),
- required specialization,
- target capacity figure (weighted coefficient that determines the ideal number of health care facilities).
The result is a cartogram depicting the health care facility coverage of the area. The ideal coverage of an area is 100 %. The coverage is insufficient in areas where the percentage is smaller than 100 % and, where the number is greater than 100%, the coverage is, according to the coefficient, excessive. This information makes the decision making process for the individual regional branch offices of the VZP CR a lot easier when evaluating the necessity of both the existing and, namely, the new ambulatory health care facilities.
The
technological backgroundof the project is also interesting. All data (graphic and tabular) are stored in Oracle 10g; Oracle Spatial is used to create the maps. The database and application servers utilize the Windows Server operating system.
The project will be presented at our User’s Meeting and the attendees will have the opportunity to have a closer look at it.
